My excitement for 2015 is electric. I feel like I’ve been rooted in one place for too long, and the appeal of vagabonding grows every day. I think you can relate–you are reading this for some reason, after all.
The coming year will bring me to many places, some I’ve yet to even imagine. But, one thing is for sure, and that is that I am going to Ecuador. So, rather than regale you with my resolutions and ambitions for the New Year (which, I’m working up the courage to record a video on), I’ll allow my daydreams to overflow into the real world of words and computer screens. Here are five things that you’ll probably hear about in the coming year:
5. Following up a day of outdoor adventure with a soak in thermal pools in Baños
A touristy town near active volcanos, I can’t say no to the lure of an epic day followed up with a relaxing soak in thermal pools. Zip lining and repelling down waterfalls fits in there somewhere as well.
4. Wandering historic Cuenca
Beautiful architecture excites me, no matter where it is. There’s a romance to being in a placed that speaks up about its historic roots–who can deny?
3. Surfing in Canoa
Yeah, I’m one of those people who pictures a sandy beach at the mention of the word “vacation.” If there is a beach around, I’m not going to ignore it. Surfing in Australia was a tough but rewarding experience, I’m ready to give it another go.
2. Finding a cheaper alternative to the Galápagos in Isla de la Plata
Something about my degree in biology makes me feel compelled to do the Galápagos voyage–but large prices and larger crowds make me shudder. Isla de la Plata offers the chance to experience coastal wildlife without the crowds and the associated damages to my savings account.
1. Volunteering with an animal rescue centre in the rainforest
My dream has always been to be a conservation biologist, but recently I’ve become more tangled up in sustainability. I’m still obsessed with the idea of working with animals (though I’m admittedly a tad overly sensitive for it). This seems like a necessary extension of that, though I haven’t decided on exactly where and when it will take place. Suggestions welcome!
Have you been to Ecuador? Do you want to go? Give me your suggestions and ideas!
