Just a quick post to share some footage from yesterday’s hike in Gros Morne National Park. This video shows clips from the short trail (Long Pond to the Coast = 9 km return). The longer trail is a 14.5-km loop. Unfortunately, we arrived late in the day and so opted for a quick hike.

So, here I sit at home in Newfoundland. It was a long and exhausting journey to get here (that was stretched from 24 hours to 30 due to flight delays) and I’m still not quite over the missed sleep, but I made it in time for Christmas with my family.
Anyway, I’ve been a little overwhelmed the last few days, with little-to-no idea on what I should be focussing on. All I know is that I’ve got a huge backlog of video clips to edit, photos to sort through, and stories to write. Oh yeah, and I guess I have to start looking for a job at some point (if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of me sighing in the distance).
Since my attention has been so divided, I figured I would share a few videos here that I’ve yet to post on my blog. These are collections of clips from various points throughout the last four months. I hope you enjoy!

I’m constantly impressed with how photogenic this place is—meaning, the little vineyard where I’ve been spending the month in central Chile.
In the north, Chile is incredibly dry. I mean, there is nothing. No scrub, no scattered patches of dried grass, but long stretches of open road with nothing living to be seen. As you move south, vegetation begins to appear slowly. Where I am now, it is green. OK, it’s still dry, but there is plenty of vegetation all around.
Rather than try to explain too much, I spent this weekend gathering some video to show. Here’s a short-and-sweet compilation to help you get the gist. This is just within the fencing of the vineyard. Perhaps I’ll take some time before I leave to show a bit more of the surrounding area. Here goes!

There’s nothing like a good national park that’s only a three-hour drive away. This past weekend, Tim and I took advantage of the proximity and camped for two nights in Terra Nova National Park. It may not be Newfoundland’s biggest national park (there are only two on the island, and Gros Morne gets that distinction), but the region deserves some recognition.
Not all of the places in the following video are actually in Terra Nova, and technically Terra Nova is adjacent to and not within the Eastport Peninsula.

In just a few days, I’ll be flying directly to Iceland from Edmonton. I’ve been counting down the days for a while, it’s hard to imagine that it’s so close. In reality, this blog is going to get a lot busier for the rest of the year, and it starts here.
I’ve been itching to pack my bags for a long time, ever since I bought these packing cubes. This weekend, I finally decided it’s a reasonable time to do so. I’m trying to stick with a carryon suitcase and a backpack, which will store my laptop, camera, etc. Here is a short video I made to show you the actual clothing I’m bringing with me.

We all love to break down walls and conquer new territory (am I right?). As much as you plan, there are always more things that you pick up on the road–so is the joy of travel.
Here are some of the lessons that I’ve learned over the course of my time as an expat and traveller–from how many pairs of shoes you should bring to the value of timing. Perhaps they have elements of obviousness, but we all miss the obvious sometimes. Hopefully they ring true with you as well, and maybe you can share some of your knowledge with me too (I could use the help).
